Multiple
effect system for better steam economy |
| Evaporation can be
carried out in a single effect, though uneconomically. With every additional
effect, steam is saved on a reducing scale. Hence, optimum number of effects
is selected which ensures desired rate of return on the investment made.
|
| Feed
Preheating System |
| When the feed is at
a temperature less than that of the effect, significant part of the steam
is wasted in raising the sensible heat of the feed. Feed preheating by using
bleed vapors from the effects will considerably increase the steam economy.
Such increase in steam economy is quite significant in forward feed system. |
| Liquor
Feeding Arrangement For Maximum Efficiency Under Given Process Conditions
|
| Liquor
feed arrangement can be selected in Backward, Forward, Mixed or Parallel
fashion, depending on the process conditions, to ensure maximum plant efficiency.
The steam economy can be augmented by employing Feed Preheating System whenever
necessary. |
| Condensate
Flash Recovery System |
| Since the
effects of the evaporation plant are operating at decreasing pressure, It
is possible to flash the condensate from the effects successively at lower
pressure and utilize the flash vapors to effect more evaporation, thus reducing
the live steam requirement. The saving in live steam becomes more significant
with increase in the number of effects. |
| Crystal
Growth & Removal |
| Sometimes,
evaporation is accompanied by crystallization, e.g. concentration of diaphragm
cell caustic liquor, glycerine lye, sodium dichromate liquor etc. In such
cases, a suitable scheme is provided to avoid precipitation in the heat
exchanger tubes, allow crystal growth in the evaporators or setting tanks
and separate the fully grown crystals in suitable filters. |
