The direct reading
balances employ the principle of the constant load balance. At the one
end of the beam, pan and ring weights are there for weighing the objects
and in the other end there is a balance weight (load). When a sample is
placed it breaks the balance - equilibrium. Therefore the corresponding
amount of weights must be removed to restore the original balance equilibrium
and the remaining weights can be observed on the projection scales by
the microscale. The operating knob is located in front on the base of
the balance and this aims at not only reducing vibration and increasing
the efficiency of the balance but also enables the users to work on the
balance for longer hours with more comfort.
